How it all started...

Marieke Selhorst (°06/10/1982) got a bright idea during her study Photography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Ghent! This concept would allow her to combine her organisational talent with her passion for photography and her urge to help others move forward. Under the motto "You only live once" she decided to say goodbye to her comfortable office life after 10 years in order to ressource 4 months in Sri Lanka and to further develop her plans. In March 2016 she opened The Objective.

By applying the principle of the sub-economy to the digital sector, Marieke wants to continue to respond to the continuous evolution within the digital sector without stimulating the consumer society with The Objective. The aim is to make the best material accessible to everyone, to offer creators more chances of success and to promote the importance of image formation to a broad public.

The studio is located in Oude Houtlei 144 Ghent and is open from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. Saturday by appointment. If you would like to make use of the studio outside the opening hours, you can certainly ask the question. As far as possible Marieke always tries to find a solution.

Oude Houtlei is easy to reach. By car you come via the ring road, Rozemarijnbrug, Maagdestraat to get to the free parking at the back of the building. The last garage door on your left is always open during opening hours, so you can enter it. By public transport, take tram 2 and get off at the Oude Houtlei stop (within walking distance).
